Kanji Lyrics:

English Translations:

Such transient words,
“I’ll return for you… So wait for me.”
As time and season pass by, I’m still
believing it, and waiting.

A night where snow flutters, wearing tattered kimonos,
huddled together, were poor lonely kids.

A pair of light, smiling eyes meeting a pair of depressed, melancholic ones.
Reflecting each other’s wounds, they swore to live together.

The oiran(1) who tempts in the night,
dancing around the sweet honey, a butterfly of the night.
Wearing beautiful kimonos, as I
lose myself (make bloom myself)
to become a enchanting flower(2) shining above anyone else.

Hey, such transient words
“We’ll always be together”
As seasons pass, and when we grow up, is it
fine if I still believe in it?

It was that day when everything started.
The promise, dyed in red.
Pretending to not notice the lonely heart,
and proceeding to drown in an endless dream.

On a street at twilight, falling in love without anyone knowing.
Not confessing or doing anything, just plain watching.

In front of the pair of smiling eyes, stood the smiling blossom,
and the secretly captivated heart, fell into pieces with a shatter.

Remembering the memories of the frequent nightly visits,
they are just illusions of the colourless darkness.
If “to love” is “happiness”,
then I’m the one (you’re the one)
who should be happier than anyone else.

Ah, such transient words,
“I’ll return for you… So wait for me.”
Saying “I love you” repeatedly,
it’s to confirm my own worth.

“But, if that’s true, then why
haven’t you come for me…?”
The surging, empty scream
without words, disappeared.

Disappearing with the fading night, (the corpse of a fake love.)
If everything was a dream, (then I wouldn’t have to cry.)
“I’ll wait for you forever.” (The promise sworn at night)
disappeared with the short-lived flower.

The promise made at dawn, so long ago, do you remember it?
“Let’s walk together from now on.”
I’m sure, one day…

Ah, disappearing fleetingly,
is the pitiful flower, with her very first love.
As the seasons pass, and as I grow up(3),
the wound which will never heal, remains.

On a summer day at dusk, when the promise never came true.
I’m alone. Alone,
without anyone to turn to, and waiting continuously.

Still swearing my promise at dawn,
and wishing that everything was a dream…

End notes and facts 😛

1. Oiran – In the Japan Edo period, prostitution used to be legal (before it was banned around the 19th century, I think.) The thing that separates oiran from normal courtesans (yuujo, not to be confused with friendship “yuujou”) is that they are celebrities and entertainers outside this job. In this story, (as some of you might know :-/) Rin and Miku are head oirans of their own quarters (however I am unsure if they can be considered as tayuu or not, because Ren is only a wealthy merchant’s son -that probably can’t do anything other than play with people’s hearts *rants*-, not a daimyo). Of course the achievement of that title came at a price. With Rin, it’s more of a negative while it made Miku more confident (most probably the reason why Ren was seeing Miku and Rin never confessed. In case some of you didn’t know. Rin was the originally cheerful one, while Miku was the melancholic one mentioned in the third verse.)

2. Hana (華), same pronounciation as “花” (flower). They share the same meaning as well, but in my personal opinion, “華” has a deeper meaning than plain “花”. The Japanese like to refer to women as “flowers/blossoms” by the way, hence the translation. 🙂

3. You’d probably notice that I used “we” before but “I” later, because Miku was already dead and Rin was the only one left. So I just made her refer to herself as “I”.

Rantings:

I WANT TO KILL REN! OMFG OMFG OMFG! Like with every song, I didn’t realise the deepness of it until I looked through and scrutinised everything. And translating this song made me cry. Twice. And I STILL WANT TO KILL REN. Poor Rin :(. And Miku :(.

Honestly this song doesn’t focus on Ren, not on the fact that they (Miku and Rin) are oirans. More on their friendship than anything else.

Btw, seeing the Japan wiki made me twitch, do they really HAVE to remind me of the earthquake? 😦 (Kishimoto-sensei… Onegai… Bujidekure… 😦 )

Oh yes, the title doesn’t really link to the story, but at the same time it does. -.-; (<- what kind of shitty explanation is that?!) The rain part is a bit weird but meh :P.

So… Yumezakura next? :P.

Another translation down <3.
